Charleston, SC is proving that pedestrian-only street events can work in small North American cities—not just in metropolises like Montreal and Portland. This past weekend’s “Second Sunday,” which the City opens its main shopping street for pedestrians only, seemed like the most successful yet. Video above from our local news paper.
Unlike what happened in the 1970’s in America, this event closes downtown to vehicular traffic only once per month. But in the bigger scheme, this is a step toward car-free districts in America. Start slowly.
